Help assured to Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy
ITANAGAR, May 10: Secretary, Sports D.S. Pandit today assured all help to state’s lone sports academy the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) for its steady growth.
Attending a prog to mark the 9th death anniversary of Sangey Lhaden, former sports and youth affairs secretary at SLSA today, Pandit lauded the recent performance of the students of the institute in various sports events nationwide. Pandit asked the students to maintain the same tempo and spirit in future too.
Sports and youth affairs director PR Mazumdar encouraged the students to practice hard to become a good sportsperson. SLSA being an institute of combination of sports and academic study, the students of this institute must devote more time and efforts to achieve success in their chosen fields.
Principal of the institute Pubi Lombi highlighted the performance of the institute in various sports events between the years 2008 to 2010.
According a performance report made available to the Press, the students of the institute won 11 medals, including two gold, in the recently held NE Games at Shillong. In 2008 edition of the game, only Kumbung Wangsa could manage a bronze medal.
Its student Likha Lej won a gold and silver medal each in 22nd and 23rd AIKF Jr.

Rongali Bihu Sammelan in Mahadevpur
ITANAGAR, May 10: Rangali Bihu Sammelan was organized at Mahadevpur with a three
days long programme from May 6-
Addressing the Sammelan PWD & UD Minister Nabam Tuki recalled days of his youth and said that his association with Bihu was very old. Terming Assam as “Big brother” he said Bihu is known in all the states of north east and it was like any other agricultural related festival in the region.
Mahadevpur area is an abode of many ethnic groups and celebration of such celebrations will surely weave all these groups in unity, he added.

ITANAGAR, May 10: Papum Pare District Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) deeply mourned the death of Takio Yari who died at her native village Kullung under Mengio circle on May 9 last.
Late Yari was the mother of Mengio block NCP unit president Takio Duri. She was 60 and leaves behind 2 sons and one daughter.
The district NCP members prayed to Almighty for eternal peace of departed soul and bestow enough strength to family members to bear the irreparable loss.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA), Kurung Kumey district unit has appealed the education department, especially education minister to post more regular ATs and STs in various schools of Kurung Kumey district.
Shortage of teachers in the district has severely affected the learning process of the students, the ATA unit said and also urged the department concerned not to transfer the teachers from the district on political ground as the district has been facing shortage of teachers.

The greateness of a writer or artist cannot be measured by an international prize awarded by developed western economies. Gandhi never got a nobel prize for peace, but isn't he the most befitting for the prize? Maybe this is a part of divine justice as Alfred Nobel was the inventor of dynamite which later helped in making improvised bombs. Maybe Gandhi is happy that the selectors overlooked him for the prize, nor did he have any British friend to rally behind him for the prize.
Saif Ali Khan may be awarded the 'Padmashri' because of the cordial relations shared by his mother Sharmila Tagore with the Gandhi family and the high and mighty in Delhi. But that does not belittle great artists like Amrish Puri, Pradeep, Om Prakash, A.K. Hangal etc. who passed away unsung and unawarded.

Where does that leave us?
Dear Editor,
This is in response to a letter by one Ngai Rida on use of mobile phones and books inside the examination hall.
It is really saddening and shameful to read that candidates had access to mobile phones and books during exams for recruitment for Junior Engineer (Civil) Hydro Power Department.
Such practices are not only bad examples but are discouraging as well.
Concerned authorities need to take the full responsibility for such unbecoming acts of the students.
What kinds of message is being sent out to those young students who are going to write their various state level engineering entrance exams in couple of days.
Does Professionalism mean anything to these officers? Has it become a just a matter of attaining degree certificate or is it money power game?
I would ask the concerned authorities who conduct such misleading exam to come out from their isolation and take some examples from other state on how to conduct various Government recruitment exams.
I have witnessed in my own college and various other campuses authorities work very hard to recruit deserving candidates so that departments and state shine.
Despite all, I would still ask the concerned authorities to conduct exams with full transparency.
I also urge responsible Students and Unions and Higher Officials to take up the issue and have a good discussion regarding the standard of all competitive exams in the state for the sake of Arunachal.

Swinging into action to rein in his Cabinet colleague Jairam Ramesh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today pulled up the Environment Minister for his statements.
On a visit to China this weekend, Jairam Ramesh embarrassed his own government by using words like "alarmist" and "paranoid" to describe the Home Ministry's policies towards Chinese companies looking to enter India.
Ramesh said in Beijing that the "overly defensive and alarmist" approach in the security establishments in India which are raising telephone tapping concerns would not help in sustaining the Copenhagen spirit. He also said that India should be much more relaxed in its approach to Chinese investments into the country and get rid of "needless" restrictions, adding "we are imagining demons where there are none."
The Prime Minister reportedly told Ramesh that there is no confusion in the government over its approach towards China with which it wants to have constructive engagement.

Manipulation in beneficiary list alleged
PASIGHAT, May 10: In a serious allegation, the beneficiaries of Rural Housing Scheme under SPA of Mangnang village, East Siang District, claimed that the approved list of the beneficiaries of the said scheme for the village has been manipulated.
The beneficiaries were selected during the tenure of Omak Apang as MLA and work order for construction of houses were issued to them in July 2009, and accordingly earth digging were done under the guidance of a junior engineer. However, the construction works had to be halted due to Assembly election, said one of the beneficiaries.
Later, when we approached the BDO, Ruksin to resume work, we came to know from reliable sources that our names have been deleted or ommitted from the beneficiary list and a new list of beneficiaries has been prepared by authorities concerned without taking any consent from the village development committee, he added.
Later it was confirmed through RTI.
When we apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the matter, he advised us to settle the issue amicably. A meeting was also held today at Ruksin SDO office on DC’s advise, but the case remained unresolved.
"We will file a case in this regard in the high court tomorrow for justification, another deprived beneficiary said. Meanwhile, the BDO told ATNS over telephone this evening that the allegation is totally false and fabricated. "I am not the competent authority to change the beneficiary list. Moreover, the list were prepared as per the list approved by Panchayat leaders," he added.

The Society claimed that 1600 MW Subansiri Middle Power Project over Kamala river would submerge 50 per cent ancestral land of the population of the said area. They villagers have no alternative land for their resettlement, the Society added.
The construction of dam in the Repari village to river meeting point would spell doom for the villagers of left bank of Pein River causing untold suffering to them, the Society said and appealed the authorities to pay heed on their objection.
Chatung to launch website to promote film industry in Arunachal
